Thank you so much for clicking through to my fundraising page!

Just to explain the picture - I'm not auditioning for a part in the Nativity nor have I taken to a convent. Far less likely, I have volunteered to take part in a 4-day, 100km trek across the Namibian desert - one of the world's last true great wildernesses - hence my homage to Lawrence.

And no, I didn't misread the title and assume this was a "Namibian Dessert Challenge" - anyone who saw my attempts in the doughnut eating competition would realise that wouldn't prove much of a challenge! Instead I'll be attempting to conquer sand dunes, gravel plains, and volcanoes in baking 40 degree heat with hyenas, snakes, spiders and rhinos to keep me company when the freezing cold nights set in - with no showers or toilets (the last point currently scares me the most!).

When I told my close friends and family what I'd signed up to, they looked at me as though I'd lost it - I burn at the merest glimpse of sun, and love nothing more than cozying up in front of Sky+. So I started to question my own motives:

Help others - These are difficult times in which those in need, need most help. The Fredericks Foundation helps people living in poverty get back on their feet, support themselves, rebuild their self esteem and get out of the benefits cycle. Take a look at their website to see the warming success stories - and as it's a small local charity, the money raised will make a massive difference to what they do.

A fantastic challenge - The physical endurance challenge is a great motivation, and combined with the fundraising it has become a massive drive for me.

Get fit - I dropped a couple of dress sizes a few years ago and treated myself to the perfect dream jeans - vowing then to always fit in them. Fast forward a year or so - and my muffin top has got the better of me - I need a target to get back in shape!!

So your support is very much needed - every penny counts, and will be hugely appreciated by the Fredericks Foundation and myself!

Thank you,

Vicky
