Some of you may know that last year I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for Childreach International, and then volunteered in some local Tanzanian schools. I found the experience so incredible and worthwhile, that im doing it again this year! Only this time, im going for Everest Base Camp :)
Everest Base Camp is one of the most famous treks in the world; however it is not without its dangers. The temperature, physical exertion, possible altitude sickness and sheer mental will required, mean that not everyone who attempts this challenge actually makes it to the top. However, I plan to be one of those people.
Childreach support three projects in Nepal: Dhulikhel Hospital, Yangrima School and Antardristi. Healthcare in the rural communities of Nepal suffers tremendously as a result of poverty and weak geographical infrastructure. Dhulikhel Hospital aims to combat this through developing and supporting mother and child health camps. Yangrima School was forced to close during the recent civil war in Nepal. However Childreach aided and supported its re-opening with great success – after only 4months 77 children are enrolled and attending the school. Childreach aims to continue this work, in the hope that it can ultimately improve the education, health and nutrition of the Nepalese youth.
Having completed this trek I will be visiting some local Nepalese schools to develop a better understanding of the needs of third world communities. I hope that the opportunity to volunteer and fundraise for such a fantastic project will be truly amazing.
I have pledged to raise at least £2,200 worth of sponsorship money for Childreach, which I can only achieve with help through donations, big or small. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
