Story

Updated on Jul 8th 2010 at 8:43 PM using the JustGiving iPhone app

Got to John O' Groats and back to Inverness today. 280 miles. Glasgow via Fort William tomorrow (hopefully). Thank you all for your donations we really do appreciate them. I will try and post again tomorrow night.

Sorry the postings have been so few, bad mobile signal has prevented me doing much.

So we made it to John O'Groats and back to Inverness last time. The following morning after a few hours sorting out some electrical problems we left for Glasgow. Unfortunately we had problems on the way and I had to be recovered by RAC due to complete iganition failure. But I was then lent another Vincent by a friend in the Vincent Owners Club, this made it possible for me to ride back out (242 miles) and meet the lads and carry on with the ride. On Monday 12th July we made it to Land's End at last. Then Tuesday 13th July we had a 269 mile trip back to Kent.

So after everythng, we made it. Bob Stan and myself managed a little over 2000 miles on 1950's Vincent motorcycles, and we have something to chat aboput down the pub for a while to come yet.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

As you will know by now we are trying to raise money for The Multiple Sclerosis Society and Diabetes UK, these are conditions that can affect any person at any time of life. We have friends and family who are affected by these conditions, and so both charities are close to our hearts. I have 2 just giving webpages 1 for MS and 1 for Diabetes (www.justgiving.com/vincent499-endtoend-diabetes  ), I will leave it up to you to decide which you would like to donate to, or feel free to donate to both. I hope you will agree they are both worthy of every penny (no matter how many or how few) you would be kind enough to give.

So this is what we are doing. Bob (the builder) Hill, and I (the spanner) have decided to go for a bike ride in July. We are starting off in South London and heading North to John O'Groats, then when we get there we are going to turn around and head south, to Lands End. Once we get to Lands End we are coming home again for a cup of tea/pint of Bishops Finger. The ride should cover just over 2000 miles of A and B roads, we will not be using motorways, and it will last about 8 days. The bikes we are taking are Vincents from the 1940s and '50s. Mine is a '51 500cc Comet,  and Bobs is a 1000cc Rapide.

We will keep you posted of the trip and include some more detail of stops and plans nearer the time.So please come back and see how we are getting on.

So it's nearly time to leave and the route is now sorted. We leave the Black Prince Interchange in Bexley Saturday morning and ride through London to the Vintage Japanese Motorbike Show in Uttoxeter via Stevenage. Then on sunday we set sail again to Skeeby via Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine country), then Edinburgh, Inverness upto John O'Groats, thurso and back to Inverness. Then it's southbound to Glasgow, Stockport, Dursley and Plymouth via Porlock Hill :) . Plymouth to Land's End and back to Plymouth, then back home.

Thank you for visiting our page, it is appreciated.

So please dig deep and donate now.
