A Million Pounds - A Million Hearts of Love is my new campaign.
In September 2007, the BBC showed Kate Blewett's documentary: Bulgaria's Abandoned Children. I had heard of it but did not wish to see it, afraid of the sorrow and heartbreak it would cause me.
My Grandmother once worked for an orphanage but, disillusioned and unable to bear seeing the abuses, she resigned. I had always known that Bulgarian orphanages left much to be desired but I was not prepared for the reality of pain.
Last night, in the hope of satisfying my regular hunger for fashion, I bought Grazia magazine, which ran a story on the documentary. The images of the children were shattering, compelling - and suddenly my desire to discover the season's "IT" bag was replaced with immense sorrow. And shame. I find though that sorrow is more powerful.
My parents taught me that when faced with a situation that causes you pain, the only thing to do is to DO something. I did some research and found out that in response to the documentary The Campaing for Bulgaria's Abandoned Children was started - a chairty whose work is already making a difference - a link to their page is below.
Please donate as much as you can and as much as your heart allows. According to the article - £5 buys a set of clothes for a child in Bulgaria while £1,000 pays for a child's carer for one year! £1,000 = 2 pairs of Louboutins; or not quite a whole "it" handbag; a weekend away; a night out......
But, at the end of the day, what remains after us is the good we did, the people we helped - a positive energy which reverberates through the Universe and makes it that little bit better.
Please help me publicise the campaign and forward on to friends. Thank You!
£1 = 1 Heart of Love
As always: Love and Peace,
Volly
