.................... We Did It! ...............................
Our target of 24 hours may have been a little ambitious but we climbed over 3,407 metres, we walked over 23 miles and we drove for 400! We also attempted to sleep for some of the 400 miles but that is tricky when your bed is a mini bus, and it is bombing down country lanes!
Ben Nevis
Having spent the morning exploring Fort William and the local coffee shops, the team was keen to start walking. After a few(!) safety briefings, we set of at 3.20pm Saturday 13th September in glorious sunshine. We may not have been running like some crews, but up and down in just under 6 hours the team was rewarded with a Goldring curry special!
Scafell
Starting Scafell at 5.30 on Sunday morning, having slept for a couple of hours, this climb was much harder than expected. Our training weekend was of little help when we reached what we thought was the top, only to realise there was another half hour to go!! The views from the top were breathtaking.. anyone scared of heights.. do not attempt this climb! This was a long 6½ hours!
Snowdon
Snowdon was started at 5pm that evening. Being greeted by energetic VSO staff was the boost we needed and we set of with renewed vigour, joined also by our support team. Allegedly the easiest climb of the three peaks, our weary muscles were tested with each step, finally reaching the top as the mist set in. Arriving back ‘home’ in under 6 hours, we were awarded hot food, drink and medals… it was all worth it!
Having completed this challenge, we wish to THANK everyone who sponsored us – either online or through the numerous fundraising efforts. We have exceed our £5k target and all money raised is going straight to VSO..
This is a great challenge, worth the aching limbs and early morning train collections!
