On Sunday 5th September, I will be taking part in the Adidas Womens 5k Challenge, London and will be raising money for the Association of Young people with ME (AYME).

ME is a little understood condition but can be potentially devastating to those who suffer from it.

Symptoms of the illness can include prolonged extreme exhaustion, muscle pain, join pain, severe headaches, cognitive problems and a long list of many other neurological symptoms. These symptoms don't simply go away. They are not fake. This is a registered neurological illness that requires much more funding to find a cure.

Some people with ME can manage to go to work or school but with a lot of difficulty, whilst others are left bedridden or wheelchair dependant for years. Some people cannot tolerate bright lights and loud noises and therefore can spend years stuck in their room with curtains drawn and silence to make life bearable.

Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME) is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and  Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS).

AYME is a lifeline of support to children and young people (between the ages of 5-26 years old) with the illness, providing vital support, information and services to sufferers, carers and medical experts to raise awareness and be the shoulder to lean on when there is nowhere else to turn.

I was diagnosed with ME in May this year and being diagnosed with M.E/CFS was scary. As of yet there is no cure for us but by keeping their forum and support lines up and running, I have been able to gain friends along the way and earn valuable support to be able to manage my condition.

This is why this charity deserves a lot of recognition for what they do so please dig in your pockets... whether its £2 or £20, it makes the difference!

If you want to know more about ME.E/CFS and what AYME does to support young people please got to http://www.ayme.org.uk/
