Last year my mother passed away, after a valiant, but painful, fight against amyloidosis. To raise money to help in the fight against this disease I am planning to walk 800 miles across Spain, from north (Estaca de Bares in Galicia) to south (Tarifa in Andalusia) over five weeks this summer, some 20 miles a day. In a bid to raise publicity I'm going to be wearing my kilt for the entire journey...

Amyloidosis is a fatal disease caused by deposition of abnormal protein fibres in the tissues and organs of the body, for which there is currently no outright cure. All the money raised here will help the continuing research into this rare, degenerative disease, with the funds going to the National Amyloidosis Centre (Professor Philip Hawkins, Fund No 24)

En memoria de JC Nelson

Mi madre falleció el año pasado,  después de una valiente pero dolorosa y larga lucha contra una enfermedad poco comun llamada amiloidosis.  Con el fin de recaudar fondos para la lucha contra esta  cruel enfermedad, este verano voy a caminar 1.300 kilometros, desde el punto mas septentrional de España (Estaca de Bares en Galicia) hasta el más meridional (Tarifa en Andalucía).  Todo en cinco semanas, lo que quiere decir unos 33 kilometros al día.  Y como buen escoces, voy a hacer la ruta luciendo mi uniforme nacional, un " kilt " (o falda de escocia).

La amiloidosis es una enfermedad mortal, causada por la deposicion de fibras de proteina anormal en los órganos del cuerpo, y para la cual no existe cura totalmente efectiva.  Todo el dinero que se recaude en esta página va a destinarse a la investigacion de esta inusual enfermedad degenerativa. Así, los fondos se destinan al Centro Nacional de Amiloidosis (Prof. Philip Hawkins, Fund No 24) en Londres. Este centro en Londres es el centro de excelencia de toda Europa, y muchos pacientes españoles que padecen de esta enfermedad acuden a él para que les diseñen un plan de tratamiento, que luego es implementado por su hospital local.
