My story

In memory of Joan C Nelson / En memoria de Joan C Nelson (para la versión en castellano ver más abajo)

Last year my mother passed away, after a valiant, but painful, fight against amyloidosis. To raise money to help in the fight against this disease I am planning to walk 800 miles across Spain, from north (Estaca de Bares in Galicia) to south (Tarifa in Andalusia) over five weeks this summer, some 20 miles a day. In a bid to raise publicity I'm going to be wearing my kilt for the entire journey...

Amyloidosis is a fatal disease caused by deposition of abnormal protein fibres in the tissues and organs of the body, for which there is currently no outright cure. All the money raised here will help the continuing research into this rare, degenerative disease, with the funds going to the National Amyloidosis Centre (Professor Philip Hawkins, Fund No 24)

See more details here: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/medicine/amyloidosis/

Please give whatever you can to help! Donating on this site is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor as the National Amyloidosis Centre gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

More information about the disease and my (likely slow) progress at: http://walkacrossspain.blogspot.com/

Many thanks for your help!

Love David
