Walk for Maytree!
On Saturday 10th September we will be marking World Suicide Prevention Day and raising vital funds by holding a fundraising walk in aid of Maytree. The location for our walk will be the beautiful open space of Hampstead Heath, where we hope people will join us and walk together in a celebration of life.
Maytree is a small house in north London that takes up to four suicidal 'guests' at one time. More people die from suicide than are killed on the roads. In Greater London there are typically two suicides every day.
Maytree's aim is to save lives and relieve suffering by providing a one-off four night stay to people in a suicidal crisis. It offers a supportive, non-medical environment where you can rest, reflect, and be befriended confidentially and without judgement. The money raised from Walk for Maytree will give those in despair the chance to discover hope and believe in a future. A stay at Maytree can make the difference between wanting to die and wanting to live.
Maytree is believed to be the only one of its kind in the country to offer immediate access to safe residential accommodation together with someone to talk to 24 hours a day. We are funded almost entirely by voluntary donations.
To register to take part in Walk for Maytree we are asking for a suggested donation of £10 but we hope you can give more! Please donate as much as you can and join us on 10th September to help ensure we can be there to offer a future to those experiencing their darkest days. When you leave your donation we would really appreciate it if you could let us know whether you are registering to walk or sponsoring someone who is - this will help give us an idea of numbers on the day.
