My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Our son, Tim, like many 23 year-olds, dreamed of going to Germany to support England in the World Cup Finals. It helped to sustain him during the long months of chemotherapy.  Sadly, he couldn't make that trip – he died of acute leukaemia in December 2005. It is a little known fact that leukaemia and other blood cancers are the most common cause of non-accidental  death in young adults in the UK. Tragically, only 30-40% survive long-term.

To honour his dream and raise awareness of the plight of teenagers and young adults with leukaemia, I have walked the 550 miles from home in Essex to Wembley Stadium and from there to Frankfurt and the World Cup. Now that Sandra and I are home from our adventure, we want to thank everyone for their  kind donation and words of support. We have so many happy memories of the people we met and the places we visited on our journey. Had Tim recovered, he would have loved walking with us and raising money for research but we know he was with us all the way.

We are delighted with the amount of money we have already raised with the help of so many people. But there is much more to be done to help teenagers and young adults with leukaemia to have a better chance to make their dreams come true. So please sponsor me or if you already have then please take a moment to send the link to our online fundraising page to someone you know. Our page can be found at: http://www.justgiving.com/walkingtotheworldcup

If you have any other fundraising ideas, no matter how crazy, please send me an email at john.reeve@supanet.com or see Tim's website at www.thetimreevecharitabletrust.org.uk

Please keep in touch with our websites and read about our future plans. As Julian said, 'Each step is a step forward for someone else’s future'.

Best wishes,

JOHN and SANDRA

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
