4 days to get to Paris on a bike

Our Company is 30 years old in 2014, so we wanted to do something special.

Stop Press: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!  Making record breaking time across Kent set confidence high for storming progress across northern France and a triumphant meeting with staff who had braved the Air France pilots strike to come out and welcome the cyclists in beneath the Eiffel Tower.

Near misses with traffic and trains, tiresome head winds, uphill slogs, taxi drivers who disappeared halfway through a journey to the restaurant, snoring room mates and sharing our rooms with the bikes were all forgotten as colleagues arrived with emergency re-hydration packs of champagne.

We have some cyclists of varying degrees of commitment and competence and wanted to set ourselves a meaningful challenge and combine this with something a bit special for all of our staff to thank them for their loyalty to the Company.

So, we hatched the plan of a cycle ride for those that fancied the idea and for remaining staff to greet us at the finish before a night out in Paris.  Other destinations were considered but these were either too far, too close or did not go through a world renowned wine growing country the products of which could be sampled whenever the cyclists begin to tire or lose heart.

We leave London on Monday 22 September and arrive in Paris on Thursday 25 September 2014.

Bikes have been borrowed or bought, lycra will be squeezed into, training has (mainly) commenced.

We have raised money to support charities through other events in recent years and wanted to do the same again as a way to share our celebration.

One of our Directors has raised money for MacMillan on a previous occasion and was astonished by how many lives and families they had touched and helped when sponsors explained the reason for their donations.  We therefore want to raise as much as we can for them this year.
