My story

13.3.09

So there I was yesterday morning, idly tinkering about on the net wondering whether I should do another 10K race after last year's success at the BUPA 10,000. Something to keep me going with the running I love so much. But why ask people to sponsor me to run a distance I've already proved I can do?, I thought to myself, and kept looking.

My adrenalin was still up from a run round the park that morning so when I found a conveniently located half marathon I went right ahead and booked my place. When my legs started to ache like billy-o later in the day I wondered whether I should have been quite so hasty...

Joking aside, I'm up for the challenge and have arranged with the lovely folk at Refuge for all sponsorship money to go direct to them to practically assist them with their great work offering women and children respite from domestic violence. After attending the amazing Million Women Rise march last weekend I am determined to help as much as I can in the fight against domestic violence around the world and this is one way of getting started.

Domestic violence is a serious crime that takes lives and ruins lives. One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime so it is likely we all know someone who has been, or will be, affected - it's just we don't always know it. For nearly 40 years Refuge has been supporting women and children fleeing violence and terror.
