Hi,
I'm racing in the The Great North Swim on the 12th September 2009 in order to raise money for Dyslexia Action.
As you probably know I work in the Waterstone's Bury St.Edmunds Store and Dyslexia Action is Waterstone's chosen charity. It helps adults and children from underprivileged backgrounds learn to read and write. I'm hoping to raise as much money as possible to provide support to those who struggle to enjoy books even though they desperately want to learn to read. It's a great cause and one that many people don't know about so if you can donate anything, even £2 I would really appreciate it!
After completing various road races, two half marathons and a marathon I have realized my racing future lies in endurance swimming. Swimming is a beautiful sport for a big chap because you get to remain horizontal and the fatter you are the better you float.
The Great North Swim is a one mile open water race across Lake Windermere with up to 5000 swimmers taking part. The swim will attract some of the best swimmers in the world to battle for the title. Thousands of club swimmers will cover the same course as elite and Olympic swimmers as they try to achieve personal best times, beat training companions across the finish line and raise as much money as possible for a whole host of charities. Olympic medal winners Mark Foster and David Davies will be taking part and the race will be televised.
My training regime is a tough combination of running, swimming, weight training and eating anything that isn't tied down :)
