I first got to hear about Wishes 4 Kids whilst working in Leicester for Royal Mail. My boss Mark asked me to find a local charity that helped local children, that we could raise money for. I was lucky enough to come across Russell and went to go and chat to him the same day I called him. I left his office feeling so excited and overwhelmed by the work that he does and so pleased that I was about to be part of a team effort to help send two children and their families to Euro Disney. That was their wish and we helped grant that. All the hard work I did was worth it! I just spent an amazing day at Donnington with some very special kids and their families who got to go in some amazingly fast cars! I even got to drive one!! It put a massive smile on their faces.
This time I've decided to put a little more effort into things; hours, organising a balloon race and people at work (mostly men!! ) just didn't seem enough this time! This time I'm running the Robin Hood Marathon. No, not the half marathon, the whole one, the 26 and a bit mile one and it is ment to be hilly! Big girls aren't built for running!
I decided that as I was doing it anyway, I should put my best foot forward and help this amazing charity. I'm already SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited. I'm aiming for £300 - which is just over £10 per mile which isn't bad - hopefully I'm worth that, if not I'll probably sweat 10lb per mile instead but that won't help the charity unfortunatly!!
Have a look at their web site which is www.wishes4kids.co.uk Its worth a peek!
This is from their home page:
"There is nothing more amazing than a child's face when their wish is being granted. To see the excitement overtake the suffering of a child is to see the real objective of a wish being achieved.
Wishes we have granted included - A five year old who wanted to drive a steam train, a teenager who wanted to meet Britney Spears, three young people who had an audience with Pope Benedict XVI, a young man who wanted to spend a day fishing with Matt Hayes and a young person who wanted to take off and land on water.
Whatever the wish it is our challenge to make it come true."
I'm not asking for the world but I know in this current climate every £ is hard earned. All I ask is if you can spare the money for a take away coffee, a chocolate bar, a news paper - something you take for granted each day, that something could be turned into a childs and their families final amazing dream that will stay in their memories forever and not in the bin like the above will be! Ok thats all a bit hard talking and but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
