Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for 2010! See below for details of this years mad event!
This year we are racing in The Jungle Marathon, 222km through the Brazilian
Rainforest - an awesome challenge, but one that we are totally up for!
Training is tough, far tougher than what was required for last years London
Marathon, and has seen me trekking/running across the Purbecks as well as
taking up the sport of stand up paddle boarding to increase my upper body
strength. I am currently covering in the region of 30 - 40 miles a week
with a 15kg backpack for company. We are self sufficient throughout the race, sleeping in our own hammock, carrying our own food. We will be covering a range of distances through each stage, the longest of which is 60 miles. The real challenge is the 98% humidity, heat and terrain, with swamps, rivers and thick jungle to negotiate.
My chosen charity this year is UNICEF. UNICEF works with families,
communities and governments in more than 190 countries worldwide to protect and
promote the rights of all children. UNICEF are guided throughout their
work by the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guarantees every child the
same rights: to an education,
to a childhood,
to be as healthy
as possible, to be treated
fairly and to
be heard. UNICEF works in all these areas, and does so in a joined up way
to achieve the best possible outcomes for children.
Please join me in supporting this worthwhile cause, I am paying the £4500 fee
and equipment cost associated with this race out of my own pocket so that every
penny raised goes straight to UNICEF.
Thanks again for visiting my page, I will keep you all updated on our progress,
hopefully I will see you all out and about!
Wes
