I did it! 85 miles, 8
bananas, 5 Mars Bars, pasta, countless sweets and snacks from well-wishers
along the route later…………Boiling hot at the start, a warm, clear night with a
beautiful full moon then a cold, damp sea-mist to finish, from the high of a 4
mph march to Peel at 32 miles to the low of the 3 mph trudge to Jurby just
after halfway, you can fit a lot into 23.5 hours. I was one of 22 first-time finishers from a field of 1500+. I have added a few pictures from the walk opposite.
I couldn’t have done
it without my support team with me through the night – immense gratitude for a
storming effort from my wife Sara and son Matthew who ended up as
sleep-deprived as me. Not forgetting my training partner Bomber who had to stay
back at base on the day.
I’m delighted with the
amount raised so far for CORE and Bradford Cathedral Choir. A huge thank you to all
who donated to both causes with particular thanks to those who helped with the
fund-raising – my Mum, Sara and staff at St James’s.
In case you are
wondering, I won’t be doing it again – but Steve Redgrave said that!

I am raising money for two deserving causes. Firstly, I wish to support CORE (formerly the Digestive Disease Foundation). CORE is a small Charity dedicated to funding research into the causes and treatment of all gastrointestinal and liver diseases (www.corecharity.org.uk). Research into conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and acid reflux does not often get the attention that research that concentrates on cancer, heart disease or arthritis gets. I actually sit on the Committee that awards research grants so I know at first hand what deserving work can be funded. Therefore, I would like to do my bit for them. I have set an ambitious target of £5000. Secondly, I wish to give a fifth of any money pledged to support the boys and girls of Bradford Cathedral Choir. The Choir will tour to Barcelona in October 2010. I know that several of the children can not afford to go. This small amount of money would be given to the Cathedral Administration team so that at least a few of the Choristers from the local community can be supported to go on this fantastic trip.
I do hope you can pledge something to these two deserving causes, however large or small.
Thank you for supporting me
