I have decided to run the London 10K to try and raise money for the charity, Little Hearts Matter.
I have never run 10K in my life, in 2004 I suffered from a ruptured appendix that nearly killed me, due to the damage it caused it has taken me a very long time to recover. So this 10K will be a real challenge for me, but I think it will be worth it if I can raise some money for Little Hearts Matter.
This Charity helps young children that are born with heart problems, a few years ago these children would of died shortly after birth, but thanks to charities, like Little Hearts Matter, and some very talented surgeons, these children are now able to live much longer and fuller lives.
I know a 14 year old boy called Edward, who was born with half a heart. When he was born, the family was told his chances of living to his teenage years were very slim, but he is very much alive and although he only has half a heart, he lives his life to the full. I wish I had this energy and enthusiasm for life!! Throughout Ed's life, Little Hearts Matter has helped both him and his family cope with his condition, and without their help I am sure things would have been very different.
Recently there has been a documentary on BBC looking at very ill children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, some of which are suffering from congenital heart disease, if you have some spare time take a look at the link below and you will realise just what this kids and their parents have to go through. The little lad called Bryan is suffering from the same condition as Ed.
