Babies and Breastfeeding Information Encouragement Support
Is held weekly on Wednesday mornings at the Lanterns Children’s Centre Winchester. It wasstarted on May 16 2007,by NCT Winchester and is run by Jane Moffett and Jennie Gavin, both N.C.T Breastfeeding Counsellors and is struggling to stay open in 2011 without new funding.
B.A.B.I.E.S has provided a safe place for mothers to come for support, to ask questions, share their difficulties and meet other mothers with similar concerns. "Without the support I received at B.A.B.I.E.S I would not have been able to continue breastfeeding my newborn son" commented Sarah Dusek, user of the drop-in clinic in February 2009.
"The support BABIES has given me over the last few months has been invaluable and without it I think it is very unlikely that I would have breastfed my baby after the first couple of weeks." said Shona Robertson, mother of Fergus, now 7 months old.
Helen mother of a 2yr old and 8 month old said" BABIES was a lifeline to me when both my children were born. I did not realise how much it meant to me to be able to breastfeed until I had such difficulty providing milk. The emotional support I got was invaluable."
BABIES costs approximately £5,000 annually to run and is available 51weeks of the year to any breastfeeding or pregnant woman in Winchester and the surrounding area. Since May 2007 we have received funding from the NCT Winchester branch, An Awards For all Grant and donations from Winchester Round Table and Lanterns Children's Centre as well as many very generous individual donations and fundraising from a wonderfully committed and hardworking team. Buggy push 2011, after the successful events in 2009 and 2010, is now being planned, see the nct winchester website for more details. Please show your support by donating any amount, large or small, to ensure this vital service continues in 2011. Thank-you.
