Update:
We have done it!!
for details of our JO'GLE. Thank you to everyone for their support and assistance during this challenge.
The journey took 58 running hours per vehicle, 1,650 miles on this route:
Preston – Linlithgow
Linlithgow – John O’Groats
John O’Groats – Linlithgow
Linlithgow - Ripon
Ripon – Rugeley
Rugeley – Bedruthan
Bedruthan – Land’s End
The total miles per vehicle, when returning to Lancashire later will be 2,100 approximately. All three Wolseleys used for the JO’GLE were extremely reliable, we only undertook general maintenance and changed a couple minor maintenance parts on the route. We would most definitely recommend that anyone thinking about buying a classic car to ‘Buy Wisely, Buy Wolseley’ and join the Wolseley Owners Club for fun and friendship.
Thanks for taking the time to visit the North West Wolseley JO'GLE JustGiving page.
What is it that we are doing?
Between 12 – 17 August 2010, three teams of JO’GLERS, consisting of members of the North West Wolseley Owners Club, will be driving their classic Wolseley cars from John O’Groats to Land’s End, in support of Help for Heroes. The three teams, driving a 1954 Wolseley 4/44, a 1964 Wolseley 1500 and a 1967 Wolseley 18/85, will complete the whole JO’GLE route, (some 2000 miles return). The North West Wolseley JO’GLE is proud to be supported by ‘Practical Classics’ Magazine.
Setting off from Preston in Lancashire on Tuesday 10 August, the JO’GLERS will travel to John O’Groats for the official start on Thursday 12 August. Scottish Regional members, will be there to wave off the JO’GLERS, with some accompanying them on the first leg of their journey. After a stopover in Linlithgow, on Thursday night, Friday 13 August, will see the JO’GLERS head off to the head offices of Wolseley UK, the UK arm of Wolseley PLC, for a civic reception, where they will be met by the Mayor of Boroughbridge, representatives of Wolseley UK, the Mayor of Ripon and contingents from The Royal Engineers and The Army Air Corps.
The JO’GLERS will spend the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15th August, attending the Wolseley Annual National Rally, before continuing their journey south. Time permitting; the JO’GLERS may pay a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire on the 14. On Monday 16 August, the JO’GLERS will be driving through Wootton Bassett, as a mark of respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, after which they will head towards the South West and reach their final destination of Land’s End on Tuesday morning 17 August. It is hoped to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause, through collections en route, sponsorship and through online payments at http://www.justgiving.com/wolseley-jogle, with a target of £5,000.
David Ashburner, Membership Officer of the Wolseley Owners Club and organiser of the event, says, “This journey will be a real challenge for our Wolseleys but we are determined to do it. Our Chairman, Anne and her husband Roy will also be undertaking the JO’GLE in their Wolseley. What makes it even more of a challenge for Anne and Roy is that Anne had her knee operated on in January this year and Roy has suffered eight heart attacks and has recently had a pacemaker fitted”.

Who are ‘Help for Heroes’?
“Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry, who were both recently honoured by Her Majesty The Queen with the OBE, out of a desire to help wounded members of the Armed Forces coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq. The charity supports the wounded by focusing on raising funds for the most needed areas both directly and through its support of other service charities. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non-political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.” Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
