Story
Hey guys, thanks so much for taking the time to visit my page.
On 14 July 2013, I'll be nervously pulling on my little pink trainers and hoping desperately to blend in with thousands of runners to take part in the British 10k in London. This will be the first time I've run a race, and to be honest I'm a tiny bit terrified right now.
I've decided to do this, though, in support of a charity whose work and mission I greatly admire.
SANE works to increase awareness; provide emotional and practical support; and initiate research into the causes, treatment and experiences of mental illness.
Having grown up with a close family member with schizophrenia, I believe strongly in the need to raise awareness of mental health issues; to work to eliminate social stigma; and to give our support and recognition to those working in the field of mental health.
The Mental Health Foundation estimates that 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year. This is startling to many - including the millions who suffer in silence and isolation.
My granny was - and continues to be - an inspirational force in my life. Loving, generous, genuine and warm, she taught me more than I can articulate about humanity through hardship and the unconditionality of love.
I'm running the British 10k, therefore, in memory of Janine; in support of SANE; and to raise awareness of issues that affect so many yet are discussed openly by so few.
Your support would be incredible.
Thank you,
Sarah
