My story

THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY FUNDRAISING PAGE

Everest is the highest peak in the world located in the Himalayas in Asia.. The basecamp challenge requires me to undertake two weeks of difficult and demanding trekking reaching an altitude of 5500 metres.

I am covering the cost of the trip myself so any money raised will go towards the cause. I aim to raise £10000 and would greatly appreciate your support.

I am doing this challenge to raise money which will go towards providing clean water and adequate sanitation in Africa.  In the developed world we have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water which we often take for granted.

Just some facts:

  • One billion people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water
  • Almost half the world’s population lack adequate sanitation. This affects their health, their environment, their basic dignity and their children’s future.
  • Around 80% of all sickness and disease in the world is caused by inadequate water or sanitation
  • Water related diseases account for 2.2 million deaths each year, mostly among children under the age of five
  • Diarrhoeal diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation are responsible for the deaths of 5,000 children every single day.

WATER, THE SOURCE OF LIFE

"We have made every living thing out of water." (Sura 21 The Prophets, ayat 30).

Money raised will go towards:

·        providing hand-dug wells, tubewells or boreholes that reach groundwater resources.

·        rehabilitation of existing wells that have fallen into disrepair, as it is more cost effective than the construction of new wells.

·        hygienically sealing wells and fitting them with appropriate pumps that the communities are trained to maintain and service themselves

·        rainwater harvesting which is a viable alternative or supplementary source. Rainwater is generally collected from roofs, from where it is filtered and stored in tanks
