Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

We entered the Flora London Marathon 2007, not only for the personal challenge, but also to help Stoney & Friends break the £200,000 mark, for funds raised to date for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Only a few days ago, our 6 month journey reached its destination, and we found ourselves at the start line in Greenwich Park. And what a day it was!!

Far too hot for the runners but absolutely fabulous conditions for the spectators who were out in their thousands!!

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heart felt thanks to our own merry band of supporters cheering us on from The Old Rose in Wapping. The first time we saw you at mile 13, we were comfy & cruising, the second time round at mile 22, when Ruth was really hurting and way behind schedule, you were still there shouting. It made all the difference. You know who you are, thank you so much for making the effort, you are truly amazing & big big love to you all x x

We would also like to thank the many callers, texters, posters & emailers who wished us the best of luck for the big day, and perhaps even more touching, those who have contacted us today to check we were OK and to see how we got on.....thank you so very much for keeping us in your hearts x x

However, amongst all of our supporters, along what has been an incredible journey, we really must express extra special thanks to one person in particular. That person has not only acted time after time as our taxi driver and photographer, but also offered incredible moral support to both of us throughout this challenge. From the early 10k races last Autumn, to the Half Marathons earlier this year, right up until the Marathon itself. He got up at 5.30am to run us to Richmond station, accompanied us to the start, camped out at Tower Bridge (risking a 60ft fall!!) to catch us on camera and then again at the 25 mile mark to cheer us on to the finish (along with literally thousands lined up on the Embankment), delivering us safely back home albeit in a slightly worse shape than when we left!! Again, you know who you are, and we are so grateful for your incredible friendship-you are truly one in a million mate x thank you so much x

Oh yeah,our times...............Ruth 5hrs 55mins & Martin 3hrs 31mins.............

........Martin finished 3948 in 37,000 runners, and amazingly 737th in the 35-40 age group...........and this was his first ever marathon!!

And finally, this Marathon thing all started with the idea of raising funds for Stoney & Friends.........£10000 to be exact..........and we are just over the £7000 mark so far(including unpaid pledges)........we have 2 months to collect in all the money.................and I reckon we have kept our side of the deal.........

SO......PLEASE KEEP DONATING.....

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SPONSORED US & PAID...........A GREAT BIG THANK YOU x x
IF YOU HAVE PLEDGED BUT NOT PAID.....A GREAT BIG THANKS TOO BUT CAN WE HAVE THE MONEY SOON PLEASE!!

HOWEVER..........
IF YOU WERE WAITING TO SEE IF WE COULD DO IT FIRST....
OR.........
IF YOU WERE MEANING TO SPONSOR US AND HAVEN'T GOT ROUND TO IT YET..........
OR......
YOU HADN'T EVEN THOUGHT OF SPONSORING US.........

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT....CANCER EFFECTS 1 IN 3 OF US....

..........ALL CONSIDERATIONS NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL WOULD BE TRULY APPRECIATED

THANK YOU ALL X X X ITS BEEN EMOTIONAL X X X X X X X X
