About the charity
Our mission is to fight the causes of poverty and to help those in
extreme poverty in the UK to manage the justice system when they face
claims by statutory authorities and court proceedings by:
* as McKenzie Friends (court-recognised non-legal
representatives), acting as advocates for the poor and vulnerable facing
court proceedings for debt or fines
* training and supporting volunteers to act as McKenzie Friends
to represent the poor
* campaigning (including by setting up and pursuing test cases
through the courts) to raise awareness and to change the law on issues
identified from our advocacy work where the law, the legal process or
the benefits system operate oppressively or unfairly.
