I have agreed to participate in a sponsored tandem Skydive -Those who know me well are fully aware I'm rather scared of heights so this is a MASSIVE undertaking for me and it will be a huge personal achievement.!  It will take place on April 28th 2007 at Errol airfield between Dundee and Perth.

The reasons behind me deciding to support Alzheimer Scotland came not from personal circumstances, but out of admiration and appreciation of the fantastic job they do providing services, support and information to people and their carers all over Scotland who are affected by dementia.  I first became aware of the charity whilst doing my postgraduate degree.  My project involved the development of reminiscence software for people who have dementia.  As I had never previously had any contact with people with dementia it was essential I changed my pre-formed opinions where I tended to view sufferers as "someone else" to seeing this extremely distressing and frightening illness from the point of view of the person and to learn how the cognitive abilities of people are affected.  I worked with Alzheimer Scotland on a volunteer basis, helping once a week with a group of day care clients; I was afforded not only the opportunity to get to see how this disease affects a person, I got to know the people, learned how they felt and ultimately was permitted to test my softwre prototype with the help of clients.

The warmth of the staff, along with the appreciation of my time from the clients meant that my volunteer work continued long after I graduated, so I am taking this opportunity to give back a bit to the charity and their very deserving clients.
