In March of this year our son Alfie was diagnosed with Autism. To try to explain what this has been like for our family cannot be achieved with words, 3 months on and we know that we have to try and come to terms with his condition and give him all the support he needs for the rest of his life. What is Autism? Everyone has their own opinion about this condition and it is a very complex and confusing disability, what we can tell you is that it is not curable and he will have to live with it for the rest of his life. We have no choice but to learn and understand it as quickly as possible and to learn what it must be like for somebody living with Autism. We quickly realised that we needed help and support and found it through an independent charity based in Morpeth (Northumberland).
The Toby Henderson Trust is a small charity which supports people with autism and their families, they have truly been a breath of fresh air to our family, it is spearheaded by Lesley Henderson who formed the charity when her own son was diagnosed with autism, she really is an inspiration to many families across the north east who have been effected through autism.
It became clear straight away to us that if a fantastic charity like this were helping our son, we quite simply wanted to help them, for this reason Ny and myself have committed to taking part in the following event.....
