Story
Ride And Recover is a Swindon based non-profit organisation to promote mental wellbeing to former and serving uniformed personnel, through on road motorcycle riding and maintenance training combined with therapy.
The pressures of life for the military, emergency services, and NHS can often be overlooked and treated as part of their job. This manifests in many aspects of mental and physical health, personal relationships and quality of life.
The ownership , maintenance and practice of riding skills has long been accociated with improvements of well being through application, meditation, camaraderie and a free spirit. At Ride and Recover our aim is to improve mental wellbeing, confidence and stress management through advanced rider training, basic maintenance and well being therapy sessions. From newcomers to old timers, our courses are held in small groups to suit individual riders needs and skill level.
Ride and Recover was conceived by Duncan (Pompey) Wilkinson, a Former Royal Marines Commando of 18 years with a secondary career of over 20 years in the close protection field. After suffering a broken back on duty, he discovered motorcycles on advice from his surgeon as a means of transport and never looked back. Wanting to share his passion and belief in the theraputic effect of riding. Pompey studied Police advanced rider techniques and established Next Step Advanced in 1996. He also raced for many years and belives that some techinques from both skills are vital to improve safety .
Our purpose built facility in Swindon has a working service centre on the ground floor, with a private mezzanine level above for instruction and refreshments.
Courses on offer will cover three main areas:
1. Advanced riding instruction, both theory and practical, with highly qualified and experienced instructors.
2. Basic motorcycle preparation, suspension set up and check points with our team of mechanics.
3. Mindful therapy with qualified therapists available as an individual or in a group setting.
At this stage our services are offered to those who have a full motorcycle licence and their own bike. Our aim for the future is to train newcomers for their full license and introduce them to the many benefits of riding.
Please consider being a part of this venture, however small and giving back to our dedicated uniformed personnel.

Just come across this project guys, looks a great idea. I’m a former Royal Marine, left in 2003, riding a big old GSA. Would love to know more about bike maintenance and improving my riding.
