Story

DEDICATED Buckingham fundraiser sets the pace as he embarks
on a 100km run for the leading UK meningitis charity, Meningitis Now.

Craig Nelson, 49, of Tingewick, will be challenging himself to run the distance of two and a half marathons in a bid to raise £1,000 for Meningitis Now. He is taking on the 65 mile
stretch in memory of Emily Styles and James Johnson, whose stories have
inspired him to support the charity.

James, of Southend-On-Sea was just 15 years old and fit and healthy when he died of Meningitis B in 1991. Emily, 19, of Buckingham, collapsed suddenly on New Year's eve 2013, she never regained consciousness and died, also of meningitis B on New Year's Day 2014.

Craig said: “Although I did not know James or Emily, hearing about their stories really struck a chord with me and I would like to raise as much money as possible in their honour. I cannot begin to image what their families, and so many others across the UK, go through, both at the time and for the rest of their lives without their child.

“I came up with the idea of running to the Meningitis Now Head Office in Stroud in honour of James and Emily and their families and to raise funds and awareness of the pain and devastation that this dreadful illness causes. I really wanted a massive personal challenge and felt this would fit the bill; I have been training for it ever since. As well as raising money for a fantastic charity, helping thousands of people affected by meningitis in the UK, it has also benefitted my health and fitness enormously.”

Craig will be setting off on his 100km journey from The White Hart Hotel, in Buckingham on 7th April 2016. He hopes to arrive on Friday 8th April 2016 at the Meningitis Now Head office in Stroud
