Story
Inspired by the incredible Misba Khan, who climbed Kilimanjaro over Christmas for the Children’s Unit, I have decided to take on my own challenge to help the cause.
Granted, it’s not the highest mountain in Africa, but we can’t all be super mountaineers. Instead I will be sticking on flat ground for a whole 10k as I run around the streets of Manchester. My trainers have not seen daylight for quite some time, so it’s time to blow away the cobwebs and hit the tarmac for charity… Wish me luck!
Funds raised will go towards the on-going appeal for a new sensory voyager at North Manchester General Hospital. This equipment will be tremendously beneficial for the young patients on the hospital’s Children’s Unit. The unit cares for patients aged 0 – 16 years with a wide variety of needs, and the sensory voyager will provide a portable sensory studio solution which brings sensory equipment to the children who is unable to access the sensory room.
Many children with long term life limiting conditions are admitted to the unit for treatment throughout the year. For those children who are immobile in bed, the sensory voyager brings to life their single room. It will significantly help the children to relax, giving them control of the surroundings about them during their admission, as well as making their stay in hospital a more pleasant and memorable experience.
To get this new equipment into the hospital for patients it will cost £4,698.00. Misba’s Kilimanjaro climb raised a fantastic £1,486.60, and I hope that my 10k run will get them one stride closer to this huge target. No matter how large or small, please do donate if you can. Every little helps!
