Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October, I am heading to Kenya for 10 days with the Moving Mountains Trust to take part in the Water for Life project.
The Water for Life project aims to improve access to water for the communities in Solio, both for domestic use and for agriculture. At present there is one bore hole/tap in the corner of each of the seven villages in Solio, each water station serving approximately two and a half thousand people. The villages are spread over a wide area meaning that families have to walk for long distances (up to 6km) and queue at the central point to collect and carry water to their homes. Carrying the heavy water containers back to the homes requires a lot of effort and time. The lack of water supply for homes has negative consequences on health and hygiene and makes irrigation for agriculture very difficult in an area where it is vital for farming, an activity on which the people depend.
The project will involve the installation of storage tanks, piping and water outlet taps around the villages in Solio. I will be involved in digging trenches for piping, fixing outlet taps around the villages, laying and connecting piping and helping to transport the water storage tanks. I will work alongside Moving Mountains Kenya staff and members of the communities to implement this project which will make a huge difference to the lives of the families in Solio.
To help fundraise for this project, I will be walking from my home in Brewood to my place of work - Marston's PLC in Wolverhampton - and then walk home again. The distance is about 8 miles each way. To make it a little more interesting, I will be doing it in fancy dress!
So please, no matter how big or small, I really would appreciate any donations you can make.
Thanks,
Ciaran
