As you may know following a moment of Gin induced madness, I have entered the Marathon Des Sables. This is a race in Morocco where competitors run six marathons (156 miles) in six days in 40 degree heat across the Sahara carrying all the kit required to sustain them over the event. The organisers provide a tent and water, everything else you must carry, including all your food.

Clearly running around in the desert carrying 11 kilos in a rucksack is a fairly pointless endeavour so to give it some meaning I have decided to raise money for a good cause. The recent death of a friend from cancer has prompted me to raise funds for Cancer Research. If you are prepared to sponsor me despite my increasing decrepitude then I would be very grateful.

This is the last time that I am going to participate in an endurance event, although I have said that before.
