Going vegetarian for a month is something I have often thought about doing as a challenge. I have also often thought about doing something for a kidney cancer charity ever since my father passed away in 2008. For a long time I couldn't face it, after all nothing was going to bring him back. But now I feel it's about time I did something to help raise the profile and awareness of this lesser known, rare but often deadly cancer, and hopefully be able to offer some small gift towards research and support, as it is one of the most under funded, and under the radar cancers.

On a completely separate issue, I have recently also become more concious of the dominance of animal products in our diet, and find it increasingly hard to justify to myself,and also have less of a taste for meat than I used to, and enjoy some meat free meals. I'm veggie-curious shall we say. So I've decided to up the ante and make the challenge harder, by going not just vegetarian, but vegan for a month (no cheese Grommit!!), and see how I get on. I doubt it will become permanent, but I'm confident it will definitely change the way I eat, at least a little bit, in the long term. 

So then I thought, why not combine these 2 unrelated things, go vegan for a month as a challenge, and raise money for kidney cancer. I can't back out once I've made it official and ask people to donate, so I am definitely going to see this through.

P.S. The photo is of me and my dad, chosen because it's not a typical posed photo of the two of us, but totally natural, and comical, both of us looking not exactly thrilled to be at a soft play party when my 2 were little, and probably run out of things to talk about! It always makes me smile.
