Story

I am a mad keen cyclist and more recently some Triathlons.

On 10th May 2019, I had a cycling accident and was airlifted by Great Western Air Ambulance to Bristol Southmead where I underwent surgery to fix my broken neck . In addition to the two neck breaks I had broken my back in 9 places, 5 ribs, torn retina in my left eye, a stroke  and numerous other issues.

I was lucky to live and certainly the odds were against me ever walking again . But after 3 months in hospital and 2 months at home in intense physio, I am so pleased to say I am on the road to recovery. I have definitely beaten the odds and used all of my 9 lives !

I owe this to many teams within the health service , but the one that I am fund raising for is the Great Western Air Ambulance, as their fast actions I am convinced saved me from a much worse outcome. They are reliant 100% on charitable donations.

So I am setting myself a target that within two years from the date of my accident (10th May 2021) I will complete a half Ironman distance triathlon ….

1.2mile swim,

56 mile cycle

13.1 mile run.

At the time of setting up this page I have not been back on a bike and certainly have some fears to overcome before I do so.  I have not been able to swim due to a frozen shoulder and my maximum walking distance is 1 mile.

So the challenge is pretty aggressive for me , but so is my target amount of £50k. That said the Great Western Air Ambulance require £3 million per year charitable donations to operate.

Remember, like me , you never know when you might need an air ambulance to save your life, so please give generously.

If anyone wants to join me in 2021 for my challenge, then you are more than welcome …. just let me know
