Fundraising for World Animal Protection
Story
Alice's story:
Two years ago, I lost my 31 year old sister, Sarah to cancer. As you can imagine, this turned my life upside down.
Sarah was a huge animal lover and as her younger sister, I always looked up to her. Since her death I have become the proud 'mother' of a cat and a dog and I can honestly say that they have saved me during the most challenging of times. The unconditional love and joy I receive from them everyday, trumps any therapy I have experienced from a human. Caring for them gave me a purpose and focus when I needed it most.
I’m running the London Marathon in memory of Sarah- a legacy that I know she would be truly proud of and find slightly unbelievable because I HATE running.
Beth's story:
I may not have the best knees for this feat ahead and I may have never entered ANY type of running event in the past but that’s even more the reason for me to give this a go.
I’m really excited to be running for World Animal Protection. I have always felt a strong sense of connection to animals and since I was young I have felt a duty to protect them and the natural environment. My pets have always been an extension of my family throughout my life and have been there for me when I have needed them most. Any pet owner I know would agree that nothing beats curling up on the sofa with your beloved ball of fluff!
World Animal Protection run various campaigns such as fighting the exploitation of animals, supporting sustainable tourism and helping animals caught in natural disasters. They also advocate for ethical farming, which is not just important for animals but for the future of our environment.
I am pleased to be raising money for this brilliant charity, alongside what I know will be a huge personal challenge, both mentally and physically.
Thank you so much for sticking with us until the end of our 'story'. Every pound we raise will make the 4-5 hour run slightly more bearable, but most importantly it will make a huge difference to suffering animals.
Please note: we are both quite non-comital and have an intense fear of failure, hence the non-specific predicted finishing time above.
