In memory of Matt Skinner
We support families bereaved by suicide to offer comfort during this difficult time

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm doing this challenge in memory of my son Matt Skinner who we lost to suicide on 25th of June 2015. His death had a devastating effect on all those who knew and loved him. This highlights the need of a support network like "Sunflowers suicide support".

I started running in July 2020. just as we were coming out of the 1st lock-down, I was feeling quite sluggish so decided to do the" couch to 5k challenge" it took me a bit longer to achieve, but I soldiered on. I wasn't sure where it was going to take me. So when the opportunity came up to do the "10k your way" challenge I had no hesitation.

I aim to do 2 x 5k over the week. By doing this I would be able to support a much needed charity but also do it in the week of my sons 6th anniversary.

About the charity

Sunflowers was created in memory of Pete Morris who died by suicide in 2016. His family developed the Charity to walk alongside others bereaved by suicide and to be a small ray of light in the darkness; offering others comfort and support that is so desperately needed at such a difficult time. Sunflowers endeavour to provide other families with practical and professional support so they do not feel overwhelmed and alone. This we hope will give a glimmer of hope for the future. Sunflowers also raise awareness around mental health and suicide both on social media and by networking locally and nationally. We deliver accredited training to the wider community and presentations sharing our story. We highlight that it is Okay to not be ‘Okay’ and the importance of talking and of course listening. We feel that everyone can play a small part in connecting with and helping others to feel less alone.
