Story
I had clearly said I would do a road race again, but have been persuaded to run for Jamie's Farm because the work they are doing with young people is so fantastic and sadly, so essential. Many of you will know we really believe in what this amazing charity is doing and fundraising is essential for them.
The charity supports 11-16 years olds from economically deprived backgrounds who risk academic and social exclusion. The Farm offers preventative solutions to help young people who are struggling with poor behaviour, a lack of engagement at school, low mental wellbeing and self-esteem. They act as a catalyst for change by empowering young people to change course.
Jamie’s Farm combines Farming, Family and Therapy for the children who spend 5 days living and working on the farms, supported by experienced staff who focus activities on positive and tangible outcomes punctuated with therapeutic sessions.
Jamie's Farm has supported over 7,000 disadvantaged children since 2009, and now deliver the programme across four farms - near Bath, Hereford, Monmouth and Lewes and also have a city farm in Waterloo.
The impact from 1,148 young people and 270 teachers in the academic year 2017/18: 89% had a higher mental wellbeing score after visiting; 58% of those at risk of permanent exclusion were no longer at risk 6 months later; 100% of visiting staff strongly agreed it was of benefit to students.
