In July 2016 my dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, which is in incurable form of cancer formed in the lining of the lung caused by exposure to asbestos 50 years ago whilst working in the shipyards. My dad was fit and healthy before his diagnosis and despite radiotherapy and chemotherapy he passed away on the 29th September, 2017.

Whilst there is currently no cure, MKMRF is a resource centre which offers support and specialist nurses and are working towards improved care and treatment of the disease in which around 2500 people per year are diagnosed.

The work that MKMRF do to help support families and provide specialist nursing care is extremely important for people suffering with this disease now and also for the inevitable cases that will be diagnosed in the future.
