Story
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page.
My son Max (11.5 years old) and I have been very upset by the stories we have read recently about food poverty in the UK and particularly amongst families with children. This is, of course, set to become an even bigger issue during the current economic environment. We are blessed in our lives, with our work, families and living circumstances and I am additionally blessed by having a family that enjoys my passion of fly fishing (or at least, for some family members, tolerate it). As a result, we want to give something back to society in some small way and helping to alleviate food poverty in the UK is a fantastic cause.
Max and I are, as most of you will already know, avid fly fishers. So we have set ourselves a 24 hour fly fishing challenge. We will do this on 24th October 2022. As some of you will notice, that is not necessarily the best time of year for kind weather but, in our view that adds to the excitement. We will be there fishing for 24 hours come rain or shine. While there are many arguments as to whether fly fishing is a sport or a hobby, doing anything you love for 24 hours is always a challenge particularly on your feet and out in the elements (please weather gods be kind to us) and, of course, in the pitch dark.
As Max loves football, we have chosen FoodShare as our charity of choice. FoodShare, as many of you know, is supported by Marcus Rashford and he has done a huge amount to highlight the charity and the food poverty issue.
Any donation of any amount will be very much appreciated.
Many thanks to Bing Turner of Qing Ya Xi for allowing us to pursue this challenge at the wonderful Lockkeeper's Cottage near Winchester, Hampshire. If any of you fancy a long weekend away in the countryside with the sound of a river flowing past the cottage, where you can watch the river as you bbq and potentially try your hand at fly fishing, there is no better venue (photos of fishing are here).
