Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of you may have heard about the disastrous earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015 leaving the country devastated. In the wake of this disaster, The Juniper Trust set an ambitious project to rebuild 10 schools and provide new uniforms and equipment for over 2,500 children. This was achieved by the autumn of 2017 but then the Juniper Trust was approached by many villages that were still without a school, almost two years after the earthquake.

Garjyang Village is situated a short drive from Jiri in a remote valley that seldom sees visitors. They requested help to rebuild a 6 classroom school for their 200+ children at a cost of $25,000 (£20,000). Using the same building contractor for supervision and using local labour to provide income to the village, work commenced in April 2017. Six months on, it is hoped that the school will be fully operational by November to co-inside with a team of volunteers from the UK to help make the finishing touches. Juniper Trust continues to raise funds to complete the work and a further €5,400 to provide new uniforms and equipment for the 180 children at the school.

So therefore on Tuesday 31st October 2017, myself and 9 other volunteers will be flying out to Nepal to help finish off the rebuild of Garjyang and Janasewa school and also to deliver School Uniforms and School Equipment to the 180 children.

This particular project will be helping over 200 children and whilst in Nepal we will be visiting 8 out of the 11 schools The Juniper Trust has already built which have offered hope to over 3000 local children.

After we have finished the volunteering we will then be trekking up to Everest Base Camp. I am really looking forward to the experience, although a little apprehensive of the base camp trek, which will be difficult; but I’m having lots of fun training! The highest point of the trek will be 5600m with temperatures of -20c.

After such a great start to the fundraising and such a fantastic response from all you guys we have decided to up the target to £10,000. This is so we can provide a further three schools with new uniform and equipment; Bhudha, Kinja and Uma Kunda Schools. £10,000 will cover all costs for building two new toilet blocks, providing three new schools with new uniform and equipment (averaged out £30 per child).

If you can, please help us raise money towards the uniforms – every little donation will help and you can be assured that 100% of your donation to the Juniper trust will go towards this great cause. It will be a trip of a lifetime for me and give hope to all these children less fortunate than ourselves.
