Story
In 2013 I travelled to Kenya as part of a Camps International volunteer expedition. In the small village of Muhaka I started working with the Amini Youth Drama Group, whose wish is to produce a series of plays and a film about issues troubling young people. These include young marriage, abortion, drugs and HIV/AIDS to name a few: all of which endanger Kenyans today. The group intends to take their film to schools and villages in the local district, covering approximately 10,000 people. Their aim is to raise awareness, provide a moral education and prevent future problems, creating much needed change.
The individuals in this group are talented and dedicated, despite their setbacks in the past due to poverty. As well as raising awareness, I would like to nurture talent and promote drama in the community, as its educational benefits can be felt by many. This is not a one-off project as the group hopes to continue the good work in the future.
The money will go towards equipment and technical assistant needed for the film and subsequently taking the film and plays to surrounding schools.
