Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Heres our story:

As most of you may know, Amy and Dave have been together for nearly ten years now, after being together a couple of years they decided to try for a baby, after 22 months, it finally happened, they were over the moon, 9 months later on 10th November 2007, their beautiful daughter Abby was born weighing in at 7lb10oz.

When Abby turned 1 in November 2008, they decided that they would love to try for another baby, after a year of trying and being disappointed every month, they took the advice of many, that be to relax and not think about it and that it would happen when they least expected it. So they put it to the back of our minds.

Suddenly, the evening before Abbys 2nd birthday, Amy experienced excruitiating abdominal cramps. As many of you who are mothers may know Amy tried her best to ignore as she didnt want Abby to suffer if anything was wrong. After a couple of hours Amy experienced pain when trying to go to the toilet, started vomitting, having sharp pains in her right shoulder and shortly after collapsed at home, came round, only to collapse again. Dave immediately called for an ambulance which came and lucky for them at the time they lived 2 minutes away from our local A&E.

On arrival at A&E, they suspected an ectopic pregnancy, Amy was taken to a ward to be prepared for emergency surgery. At this point, Amy knew it was getting worse as several doctors and nurses crowded round the bed she was on. As Amy was deteriorating, she was now experiencing pain in her back. All Amy remembers then was being rushed passed Dave and their little girl Abby and thinking that this would be it and she would never see them again.

After coming round in the recovery room, Amy was taken to a ward and was visited by a doctor soon after. The doctor told Amy that she was very lucky to have made it through, as before they could even attempt to remove the ruptured pregnancy, they had to drain 4 litres of blood from her abdominal area. Amy and Dave were told that the pregnancy was approxmately 6-7 weeks and that they had removed Amys right fallopian tube. They were truly gutted.

Whilst in hospital Amy developed a severe chest infection which resulted in her being very ill and in hospital for a week. Amy missed Dave and Abby so much.

After 8 weeks of rest, not being able to do anything, not even picking up her little girl, they were told they could start trying again. Still to this day they are trying, they are currently going through several appointments at their local hospital and Amy has an operation scheduled for September/October 2012 for Ovarian diathermy.

They will keep you all updated on their treatment and hope to be successful as they know how much Abby would love a little brother or sister.

There is not a day goes by where Amy and Dave dont think about the pregnancy they lost, all the what ifs, all the birthdays, when he/she would have been reaching milestones.

So on 10th August 2012, Amy and Dave were married in the presence of family and friends and decided to raise money for this particular charity in memory of their lost angel.

About the charity

The Ectopic Pregancy Foundation (EPF) is a charity organisation set up by a group of National Health Service (NHS) doctors to help give advice about this distressing condition that affects up to 1 in 100 pregnancies. We provide advice for both the medical profession and the general public, in the form of the website and a 24 hour telephone advice line. The EPF needs funds to support its activity and ambitions. Funding is required for hosting the website, providing the 24 hour patient helpline, mailshots to A&E departments, equipment to train gynaecologists in managing ectopic pregnancies and administrative support to run the organisation. All the trustees, faculty and international resident advisors are honorary and receive no financial reward and give their time freely. We do not have any governmental support. Mr Laurie Montgomery Irvine, founder and honory chief executive.
