Story
Between December 13th - 19th, I will be trekking to, and hopefully summiting Africa's Highest Peak, also the World's Highest Free Standing Mountain, to raise money and awareness for the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation and the Women & Girls Programme.
Along with the Women & Girls teams, the Foundation plays a significant role across the community, with incredible, life changing initiatives such as the Offload project for mental health, Disability Rugby League, Primary & Secondary Schools delivery and the Community Game to name a few.
Like many charities, the unusual year we have faced has impacted a number of the much needed outlets for the community, and having seen first hand the opportunities the Foundation provides, I have wanted for some time now to give back to the charity.
The Foundation (and development team back in the 90s) has played a significant part in my life for the past 30 years, from playing for Kevin Tamati's All-Blacks at Bank Park at the age of 8, to the opportunities Neil Kelly & the Foundation gave by qualifying me as a match official at Priestley College, then being a community coach, which ultimately lead to 7 years with the Rugby Football League in London, 6 years coaching in Australia and now Ghana Rugby League (which is why I am heading to Africa).
I owe many, if not every opportunity I have had in Rugby League to the support of the Foundation and Warrington and next year I'm looking forward to my second year with the Women & Girls teams.
I'd welcome donations, and I don't really have a target other than highlighting the work the Foundation carries out across the community.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my story and I wish you a safe and pleasant end to 2020.
Andy.
