Story
Between 26th – 31st August, I will be taking part in the Race Around Ireland, with an intrepid and trusted support crew! This is a solo 1,350mile ultra-cycling race, taking in the entire Irish coastline in all its hilly, windswept glory! This is a serious challenge with a 132-hour time cut-off, meaning that I will have to average 280-300 miles a day...for 5.5 days! This year there is a field of 18 riders from 8 countries; in 2016 and 2017, 5 and 4 riders finished respectively in the solo category! I am raising funds for Fulham FC Foundation (FFCF), a Sport for Development charity, who build better lives through sport. Current FFCF programmes include: a Refugee programme, that contributes to social integration through sports participation, delivering work readiness skills and language education. Employability programmes working with homeless people, those aged 50+ and lone parents who are currently out of work, in addition to young offenders. Inclusion programmes supporting at-risk young people in deprived areas of London, Sporting Pathways programmes engaging young people with Autism, Down’s Syndrome, SEN and their families, plus three different Health programmes ‘FulhamFit’ ‘Walking Football’ and ‘Sporting Memories’, working with adults to increase physical activity, social connectedness and mental health.
