My story...
Two years ago whilst at work I suddenly felt unwell, a pain in my left side which was really worrying. I attended the hospital for a diagnosis. Whilst in hospital the consultant admitted me. Having spent 1 week in hospital they confirmed I was suffering with Bowel Disease. Further tests had confirmed that I might be suffering with Crohns Disease.
At that point in 2013 I decided to make some lifestyle changes that would help me along dealing with this illness.
So I changed dietary and more fitness hobbies. Running became a sport that I always enjoyed and this became part of my life. I began with training building up the miles and with this I decided to enter the Coventry Half Marathon on the 25th March,2014.
Having completed the Half Marathon with an excellent time I was over the moon.
Next day I woke up with a terrible pain in my abdomen. I was admitted to hospital . The consultant confirmed that my bowel had burst and was suffering with peritonitis and abscess had formed on my bladder.
Having spent 2 weeks in hospital, and managing to evade surgery I was released from hospital to rest at home.
April 2015 I was admitted to hospital for planned surgery to remove my diseased bowel and abscess from my bladder. This was successful and was released 1 week later to rest at home.
July 2015 I returned to training for next years half marathons.
Without the excellent doctors , surgeons , nurses and all the excellent treatments and research I can now carry on with my life. I did not think I would be able to compete in any sport again.
The research must carry on the help people who are diagnosed or suffering with Bowel Disease. I have this disease which unfortunately wont go away but all the funds that go into research will help.
