Story
In 2013 Felix’s parents had the devastating and heartbreaking news that their gorgeous little boy Felix, was been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a serious condition and causes progressive muscle weakness, generally by the age of 8 boys are struggling to walk and a wheelchair is required Between 10 and 14. It is life shortening, most boys with this condition only live into their 20's and suffer from heart or respiratory failure.
Medical advancements are moving at speed (but not fast enough) and we do not doubt that in the near future the devastating effects of DMD will be reduced with new drugs and treatments. Several such drugs are currently on the horizon and undergoing medical trials. The current use of steroids is helping boys with DMD, but have serious side effects, more targeted and sophisticated treatments are being developed. Felix is young enough and has a short window of time and opportunity for these new drugs and treatments to be licensed and used to help him and other boys before they get too old and damage takes hold.
It is a race against time......and for that reason we would like to pick ourselves off the floor and raise some much needed cash for a charity that specifically helps boys with DMD. The charity is Joining Jack and was set up by a couple in Wigan, Andy & Alex Johnson, they have an amazing boy Jack age 6 with DMD, they are on the same road as us and are 100% committed to doing what they can. It is a very proactive charity and helps to fund research into some potentially life changing treatments.
