I've chosen this charity as this year Kate, my wife, trained as a Community Ambassador earlier this year. After the two days she came back with frankly horrifying statistics. The cost to my city from domestic violence for the likes of lost work, hospital visits, and social services is in the millions.

Wearside Women in Need are a community based charity in Sunderland, Washington, and the Coalfields area supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
