Story
It’s five years now since Breck Bednar, a 14 year old boy from Caterham, was tragically groomed online and lured to his death in February 2014. His mum Lorin LaFave established the Breck Foundation soon after. With a small team of speakers, police cadet “Breck Ambassadors” and the support of volunteers, the Foundation has been working hard to educate young people, parents and teaching staff about the dangers, the signs and ways to avoid grooming and exploitation. In the last twelve months, they were able to share Breck’s story with over 25,000 young people, parents and teachers.
I became Chair of the Breck Foundation last year. I’m so impressed with what has been achieved so far and keen to find ways to expand the reach and impact of our work. Unfortunately , whilst the online world brings us all many benefits - like this JustGiving page and fundraising platform - there are some in society that make it a dangerous place, especially for our young people. You may already be aware as parents with children of school age. If not, you will have seen much in the media I’m sure.
We have an ambitious plan and an important goal to expand our network and reach. Your donation, however small, will help us get our message across to more families. Thank you for reading and for any support you feel able to give. Andy.
PS I managed to "get out" of the Firewalk fundraiser on March 16th as I had already signed up for the Bath Half! Lorin is doing it - see https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lorin-lafave.
