It has been nearly 4 years since i had my right leg amputated, never did i think my life would be dictated by loosing a limb and therefore i am not going to let it be with something that i enjoy.
I've always been a runner, loved it, its my escape, even more so when the reality still hits me, the psychological effects of loosing my leg.
These past 4 years i have met many amputees thru networking and groups such as the GB sitting Volley ball squad and have often felt very humbled and inspired by their stories. Many are ex service men and women who have received support from organisations like BLESMA helping us to achieve what we once thought, when first loosing a limb, would be impossible.
I ran the marathon in 2011 and raised £2000 for BLESMA. It was the most amazing experience. A lifelong ambition came true. It didn't do much for me physically but the psychological impact of feeling i could achieve anything again put me on top of the world. I have been offered a place this year, again by BLESMA and as crazy as it may seem to some people but for others i hope you understand ive got to do it again, and im lucky to have been given the opportunity once again. However i have got to try and beat my time of 5hr 22 mins...was just not good enough...for me!
Thank you for reading and hopefully understanding my feelings, and thank you for all the support you have probably given me and my very supportive wife and amazing children without even realising it!
Andy.
