Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April this year, my friend Hannah Hames suffered a SCAD heart attack. A SCAD is a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.  It is incredibly rare, it mainly affects otherwise healthy women under 45 - and here's the kicker, it presents very differently than other heart conditions. The key word here is SPONTANEOUS.

"The photo above was taken on a very normal Sunday two days before my SCAD.  We'd just finished the Kenilworth Greenway, a six-mile family bike ride.  But I wasn't riding my bike when I had my SCAD heart attack, I was making warm milk for my toddler in the kitchen on a Tuesday night." Hannah Hames, SCAD patient, 12th June 2018.

Four years ago the only information you could find on SCAD anywhere on the internet was via autopsy reports. The fact that there are now SCAD survivors means that awareness has come on in leaps and bounds in a short space of time.  Beat SCAD UK is a wonderful, patient-led organisation, which funds world-class research, raises awareness of this little-understood condition among the medical community and offers vital connection and support groups for SCAD patients. www.beatscad.org.uk

Thankfully, Hannah is still here to tell the tale. She is making a slow and steady recovery.  Beat SCAD UK is ENTIRELY run by volunteers and it NEEDS your support.

Please make a start by donating whatever you can to my RAF Cosford 10k Run effort in September.
