Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are raising funds for 10 charities: Kidney Research UK, Compton Hospice Ltd., Birmingham Children's Hospital Heart Ward, The Toby Edwards Memorial Fund, Believe to Achieve, Cleft Lip and Palate Association, A Child of Mine - ACOM, John Taylor Hospice, Birmingham Children's Hospital New Cancer Ward, Action Heart, The Hibbs Lupus Trust, Katharine House Hospice, Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, Let Us Play, Wightwick Hall School and Midland Freewheelers.............phew! These are the 2015 official  charities nominated by hundreds of  riders taking part in the Aberdovey Bike Ride. (www.aberdoveybikeride.co.uk).

In May 2014 my dad, aged 76, had a successful heart bypass operation (thank you Wolverhampton Heart and Lung Hospital). The very second he was given a clean bill of health, this lifelong cyclist started talking about how much he had always wanted to do the annual Wolverhampton to Aberdovey 100 mile bike ride. It is fun for hundreds of cyclists of all abilities, and supported by a posse of  Police motorbike riders. It might not be fun however if there is a westerly wind and rain all day. The weather in Wales can be a bit Scottish.

And apparently cycling 100 miles is harder once you are 76, although I have heard all this before..............I expect to be the one drafting him as I have done ever since I had my first road bike aged 9.

Robin and I immediately volunteered to lend him our support too, taking up the option of cycling an  extra 200 miles in two days, to get down to Wolverhampton to join in with the mass start.

We have all paid our costs for doing the ride, but we have committed to raising an extra £500 between us. Our Just Giving money goes directly to Action Heart, but the cash raised by ALL the riders is divvied up to even up the amounts the charities receive.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Alternatively we can take cash!
