Soon after we met, we went on our first holiday together to Newport* (to which we've returned every year since). While we we there, we discovered it was possible to visit one of Europe's largest puffin colonies nearby at Skomer Island.

Puffins are delightful, hilarious, and totally charming. Skomer is a carefully preserved environment where they can raise their pufflings safely. It is also home to thousands of Manx shearwaters and other birds, and the landscape is breathtaking. We highly recommend a visit.

* Not Newport just across the bridge from Bristol. That would definitely not be a romantic holiday destination. We go to Newport in Pembrokeshire.
